Plane Upscaler
Chroma plane upscaler used during YUV to RGB conversion. Most video content uses 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, meaning the chroma (color) planes are half the resolution of the luma (brightness) plane. This filter controls how those chroma planes are upscaled to full resolution.
Available Options
| Filter | Internal Name | Description | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| None (follows upscaler) | none | Use the same filter as the main upscaler setting | -- |
| Nearest | nearest | Nearest-neighbour (box) sampling | Very fast |
| Bilinear | bilinear | Bilinear sampling | Very fast |
| Oversample | oversample | Aspect-ratio preserving nearest neighbour sampling | Very fast |
| Bicubic | bicubic | Bicubic interpolation | Fast |
| Gaussian | gaussian | Gaussian smoothing | Fast |
| Catmull-Rom | catmull_rom | Catmull-Rom cubic spline | Medium |
| Lanczos | lanczos | Lanczos reconstruction | Medium |
| EWA Lanczos | ewa_lanczos | EWA Lanczos (Jinc) reconstruction | Slow |
| EWA LanczosSharp | ewa_lanczossharp | Sharpened version of EWA Lanczos | Slow |
| EWA Lanczos4Sharpest | ewa_lanczos4sharpest | Very sharp EWA Lanczos with anti-ringing | Very slow |
Default: None (none) -- follows the main upscaler setting.
Recommended Settings
- None is the default and uses the same filter as the main Upscaler, which works well in most cases.
- Setting a separate plane upscaler lets you use a faster filter for chroma without affecting luma quality, since chroma detail is less perceptually important.
- Bilinear or Bicubic are reasonable choices for chroma-only upscaling to save GPU time while keeping the main upscaler on a high-quality setting.
