Default: Hermite (hermite)

  • Hermite is the default and provides smooth, artifact-free downscaling suitable for most content.
  • Mitchell is a good choice for preserving sharpness while avoiding ringing, commonly recommended for downscaling photographic content.
  • Lanczos produces the sharpest downscale but may introduce ringing on high-contrast edges.
  • None reuses the upscaler filter for downscaling, which is rarely ideal since upscaling and downscaling have different quality tradeoffs.
